C-TRAN’s “Give Safety a Green Light” campaign returns again, just as Daylight Savings ends and the darker days of winter begin.

Starting October 19, please visit one of our Customer Service offices to pick up your green flashing safety light and important safety information. Our offices are located at the Fisher’s Landing or Van Mall transit centers.

Lights are available while supplies last!

New Fareboxes—UPDATE

After some delay to implementation, new electronic fareboxes should be installed on a small number of C-TRAN buses, starting October 3-4. If testing goes well, full installation is planned to occur November 7–15, 2015. The new fareboxes will provide conveniences, such as easy to read electronic screens, and electronically printed transfers for qualifying fares.

The new fareboxes are the first phase towards the implementation of electronic fares, which will occur in partnership with TriMet and the Portland Streetcar, by 2017. Electronic fares allow riders to purchase reloadable transit cards, or use contactless enabled personal debit/credit cards to pay their fares. New smart phone apps will also be available as an additional option to pay for fares.

Construction Begins on The Vine

On September 10, the FTA’s Acting Administrator, Therese McMillan and C-TRAN’s Executive Director/CEO, Jeff Hamm signed documents that formally give C-TRAN a $38.5 million grant that allows C-TRAN to officially begin construction on The Vine. Construction begins sometime in October, and will be centered in downtown Vancouver. Several current bus stops will be affected, but C-TRAN plans to erect temporary stops to help minimize service impacts to its passengers. Rider alerts and electronic notifications will be provided.

The Vine is C-TRAN’s largest capital project in the agency’s history, with a total cost of just over $53 million; with 80% coming from a FTA (Federal Transit Administration) grant, 6% from the state of Washington, and the remaining 14% from C-TRAN.

For additional project information, please visit www.c-tran.com/thevine, or to speak directly with a project staff person, please call The Vine’s Construction Hotline at (360) 953-4828.
