C-TRAN to Upgrade Fare Boxes in 2014

In late 2014, passengers will begin seeing new fare boxes installed on every C-TRAN bus. These fare boxes will offer passengers an electronic display that clearly show fare amount and type, automatic fare calculations, and a bill “reader” that automatically detects the type and amount of the bill inserted into the farebox. The new fare boxes will also feature an onboard printer that automatically validates fare receipts and day passes on demand.

This step is the first of two phases aimed at updating the current system. The second and last phase of this project will be the introduction of smart card technology. Please stay tuned for more exciting news regarding this project.
