Transitions Newsletter For April 2008

C-TRAN Fares will increase May 1

Beginning May 1, 2008 C-TRAN fares will increase slightly. This is the first fare increase since May 2005. In addition to setting goals for increasing farebox revenue, the C-TRAN Board of Directors made a decision to move toward routine and incremental fare increases that would address rising fuel costs while minimizing the impact to riders. The next fare increase is planned for September 2009 and from there, riders are likely to see small increases every September.

C-TRAN will have a service change on May 18. Some routes will see minor schedule and route adjustments, and customers can anticipate continued reliability because of the changes. Details about the service change will be available on the C-TRAN Web site by April 21, so that you can see what changes, if any will affect your route.

Rider Profile: Rudy

How long have you been using transit?
A year and a half.

What made you choose the bus, and what do you use it for?
For the first 6 months I lived pretty far from a bus stop so I would only use the bus when my cousin couldn’t give me a ride to work. Most of this was in the summer so I didn’t get too wet walking to the stop. Then when my cousin got a new job in Seattle, I had to move out of the apartment and I ended up moving to an apartment that was right by a bus stop. Now I use the bus to get to work almost every day. If one of my friends at work is heading my way after work, they give me a ride but I usually end up taking the bus home.

What do you like about it?
I like the bus because I can rely on it all the time. It is slower than getting a ride from my friends at work but I know the bus will be there every day I need it. It was really good when it snowed because I still had to go to work and the bus got me there.

What changes would you like to see at C-TRAN?
I heard that some routes might run until midnight. There’s always a chance my work shift can change so I would be happy if it’s true. Then I wouldn’t have to worry so much about changing to a later shift. Also, I could work overtime if I was asked or just hang out with my friends later after work.

How does mass transit fit your and your family’s lifestyle?
I don’t have a family, but the bus works to get me to work and back. Sometimes I ride to Portland to meet my buddies and shoot pool. There’s a place right by the MAX station where we like to play so it’s pretty easy to get to.

Summer Blast Pass

It is almost that time of year again! Beginning May 21, 2008 the C-TRAN Summer Blast Pass will be available for riders between the ages of 13 and 18, at all C-TRAN Passenger Service offices.

This discounted pass provides unlimited access on most C-TRAN bus routes, as well as TriMet buses, MAX and the Portland Streetcar. The pass is not valid on C-TRAN’s Portland Premium Express routes. Pass holders will get incredible discounts at many local businesses.
