C-TRAN Postpones Sept. 30 Service Change

For immediate release: September 17, 2007

Vancouver, WA:A delay in construction of the 99th Street Transit Center at Stockford Village is forcing postponement of the September 30th service change.  C-TRAN officials were notified of a problem last week in the design and grading for the bus platform and passenger waiting area that has resulted in the concrete pour being delayed.  C-TRAN is working with the project’s construction company and engineers to correct the problem so the project can move forward, but it will not be completed in time for the facility to open on September 30. C-TRAN expects to announce a new date for the opening of the facility and the new service plan later this week. This means that between September 30th and the new service change date C-TRAN will continue to provide its existing routes and schedules, including the utilization of the 7th Street Transit Center in downtown Vancouver.

C-TRAN officials had considered alternative operating arrangements at or in close proximity to 99th Street, including running the transit center in the middle of the park & ride lot along 7th Avenue NE, but none proved feasible and safe.

“Obviously this delay will be hugely disruptive to our riders and C-TRAN employees,” said Jeff Hamm, C-TRAN’s Executive Director/CEO.  “However, when C-TRAN launches its most significant service change in the agency’s history, our riders deserve to have a fully operational and safe transit center at 99th Street, and this delay will ensure that happens.”

Highlights of C-TRAN’s new service plan include:
