C-TRAN to use Renewable Energy Fuel Fleet-Wide

For immediate release: February 2, 2007

Vancouver, WA:On Friday, February 2, C-TRAN announced a demonstration program that will use B100 biodiesel fuel in one of its fleet vehicles. B100 biodiesel is one hundred percent renewable energy fuel. C-TRAN is believed to be the only transit agency on the West coast to use B100 biodiesel in a fleet vehicle; lowering its emissions of carbon and sulphur dioxide by one hundred percent. C-TRAN will expand its biodiesel program to run its entire fleet on B5, a 5% biodiesel blend.

The announcement was made by C-TRAN Board Chair and Vancouver City Council member, Tim Leavitt, at the SW Washington Biofuels Summit, hosted by C-TRAN and sponsored by the NW Biofuels Association and Columbia Credit Union.

“Columbia Credit Union applauds C-TRAN's innovation and leadership toward sustainability. Today, Columbia purchases more than 50% of our electricity through renewable resources under Clark Public Utilities’ Green Lights program. We also support the NW Biofuels Association's efforts to educate and assist our community.  Sustainable practices make good business sense. Our actions today can help ensure a vibrant, sustainable tomorrow.” stated Parker Cann, Columbia Credit Union President/CEO.

The biofuels summit provided attendees with the latest information on how the industry is helping shape the future of the local region and ways in which the general public can apply renewable fuel technology to their everyday lives.

"The legislature took action to spur Washington's homegrown biofuel industry by passing a number of bills in 2006.  Now, C-TRAN is stepping up to the plate and moving towards this cleaner, renewable biofuel which is the right step to promote energy independence and put money into the pockets of our farmers, citizens and businesses." stated Representative Deb Wallace.

This morning’s announcement is one of several that C-TRAN has made in the last few years, demonstrating its commitment to improving the region’s air quality. In November of 2006, C-TRAN announced a grant program to retrofit its entire bus fleet to accommodate new ultra low sulfur diesel; reducing its fleet emissions by ninety percent. The agency also plans to replace several diesel buses with electric hybrid buses beginning in 2007.
